Learn More about Daleville Community Library’s Policies

The Daleville Community Library has many policies in place for our patrons to follow so that everyone can continue to enjoy access to the many services our library has to offer Daleville and surrounding communities. On this page, you’ll find out more about our general membership and late fees, as well as general guidelines for our materials donations, and our computer usage policy. Should you have any questions or concerns not addressed here, be sure to contact us any time during our library’s normal hours.

Membership and General Practice Policies

  • Membership is available to all households. An annual membership is $20. Households not required to pay the membership fee are those in which the total annual income does not exceed $10,000.
  • Each household will receive one patron card after completion of the application. The application will specify the names of all household members entitled to its use. If additional patron cards are requested, a charge of $1 will be assessed for each. The same charge will be assessed for lost or damaged cards.
  • By using one card per household, circulation restrictions will not be automatic. However, if requested in writing by a parent or guardian, a note can be placed in the patron file indicating that the specified child or children is permitted to check out juvenile materials only.
  • Unless otherwise indicated, all materials will circulate for 14 days with the option to renew the item(s) for one additional 14-day period, unless the book is on hold for another patron.
  • A fee of 25 cents per day will be assessed against each overdue item. A patron can only check out items if there are no outstanding fines owed. If the item is not returned within 60 days, the item will be presumed to be lost and the patron will be expected to pay the replacement value of the item. If an item is returned in irreparable condition, the replacement value will be charged to the patron. If the value of a book cannot be determined, a charge of $10 for a paperback and $15 for a hardback book will be assessed.

The library will be open during the following hours:

Monday – Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Wednesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • The library will be closed for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, December 24-26, and New Year’s Eve. Other closures may be determined by the library’s manager.
  • An adult must accompany children under the age of eight when visiting the library.
  • Appropriate attire and behavior is required of all patrons. Those in violation will be asked to leave.
  • Food and beverages are permitted only in designated areas, and smoking is prohibited on the premises.
  • A patron’s personal information and borrowing history is confidential.
  • These policies will be reviewed on an ongoing basis by the library staff and board. Patron suggestions are encouraged.

Materials Donations

Daleville Community Library accepts donations of books and other materials that are in good, usable condition. We are very grateful to all of our many generous patrons and community. However, due to the influx of items we receive, we have recently developed a Book Donation Policy. Please read over this policy before donating items. We thank you for your understanding.

  1. The decision on whether or not to include donated items in the library collection will be based on the library Collection Development Policy criteria for selection. Final determination will be made by the Manager of Library Services.
